i was curious... what compound can be add to H2O  so the elemets of water are seperated, but still in the same solution.?? Ex: H2? + ?O2

Hello iceman,

That is a really good question (one that even I wish I knew the answer to).  Unfortunately, the common (least expensive) method of this type of reaction is by electrolysis.

If anyone does happen to invent a way to economically perform this reaction, there will be ALOT of hydrogen vehicles on the road. :)

Oh.. simple answer.. a reactive metal such as Magnesium.

Mg + H2O -> MgO + H2
