anti-Markovnikov's reaction
« on: September 04, 2007, 06:34:52 AM »
Hello,

I want to gain some advice for followings.

I use the chemicals as HO-R-CH=CH3 and R`- Cl.

and HO-R-CH=CH2 is reacted with R`- Cl.

the products of this reaction are R`-O-R-CH=CH2 and HCl.

also, side-reaction occurs as anti-Markovnikov's reaction in between R`-O-R-CH=CH2 and HCl.

but, I don't want this anti-Markovnikov's reaction.

What is the method?

Unless any of your R groups are base sensitive, you could do your reaction in a basic medium. This way the HCl will be mopped up as it forms. I´ve used pyridine for this sort of issue before.
