I just received a letter from ACS that I've been nominated to join. I'm still an undergrad (junior). Is it worth joining now?
Thanks

Yes and No. The student dues are cheap, so if you have spare money do it! But, if your tight on funds as most undergrads are, than it really isn't worth it honestly.

I joined it. It is not worth it to me, I am not renewing. I mean, sure it gets you discounts various things you can buy from them, such as journals. But, why would I personally buy them when I have free access to them all online through my school?

Thanks for the replies. I do have the money to spare so maybe I'll join. One of my professors said only to join if I was planning on going to the conferences, which I'm not. Does it look good on resumes?

Saying you were a presenter at a ACS conference looks great on a resume. Saying you are a member of the ACS does not mean anything. Anybody can be a member of the ACS if they pay the dues.

If you're planning on having a career in chemistry, it's worth it at least once you're a grad student (and can be a full member). It's definitely worth it for conferences. It's one of those professional things that most people get involved in during their careers in chemistry, but isn't some huge deal for the most part.
