Polyethylene Glycol?

Hi all,

I'm not a chemist by any means, but am looking for some help...

Are there any substitutes for Polyethylene Glycol which are more 'eco-friendly'? I've been reading up on PEG and it looks slow to degrade which is a cause for concern. Thoughts?
