« on: February 01, 2005, 08:10:08 PM »
hello I was wondering which oxidizing agent would be needed to carry out this reaction.  CH3-CH2-OH ---------> CH3-C (double boneded to 0) and then boended to OH.  baciacally a caboxcilic acid.  I thought it was PCC but someone said it was wrong

pcc is for oxidizing primary alcohols to aldehydes or other alcohols to ketones. If you want to oxidize a primary alcohol to acid, you need strong oxidants, like CrO3/H2SO4 or permanganate
