Engine Rebuilding
« on: November 05, 2007, 08:01:28 PM »
Anybody else out there have any experience with engine rebuilding? If so, you have any tips?

I just got an engine from a friend that I'm in the process of tearing apart to rebuild. I'm having issues with the getting the solenoids and fuel rails off without breaking them.

I have rebuilt 3 or 4. The problem is, since every engine is different, unless you have A LOT of experience, it is not very useful unless you happen to be using the exact same engines....

As always with something like this, half the battle is having the correct tools.

I agree. I started yanking off bolts with a regular hand ratchet, and some were impossible to get out by hand. Eventually my dad decided to give me our pneumatic ratchet. I cranked up the pressure on our compressor, and it made the job much easier.

I'm rebuilding a Ford 3.8L Essex V6. I was really hoping to get a little Toyota 4 cylinder around 1.4L, but I really had no choice. The engine was a freebie.
