How to separate one metal from another
«

Could someone describe to me the general characteristics of how to go about separating one metal from another metal? I have three scenarios I am trying to consider, all for research purposes in sensors technology.
1) How to separate aluminum from lead.
2) How to separate iron from carbon.
3) How to separate a radioactive element from aluminum.
I am not sure if there is a general approach that applies to all three; I would appreciate any help that you can offer.
Thanks

Carbon is not a metal, unless you talk to astrophysicist. There is no general approach that'll work in all cases. Last one is in fact undefined, as different elements will require different techniques.

Thanks for the clarification. I will be more specific. How is uranium separated from aluminum?
Thanks
