What kinds of particles compose an ionic compound?

Hey, new here and I have 2 questions.  I would greatly appreciate if someone could help me.

1.Why isn't a solution containing ions itself charged?

2.What kinds of particles compose an ionic compound?

The first one I don't know.
The second part, an ionic compound is a compound that has a very strong bond between a metal and nonmetal.  So yes two opposite charges since you'll have a cation and an anion.

Read your book on ionic compounds.  Ionic bonds can be between metals and non-metals but are not limited to this.

There are equal numbers of positive and negative charges, so the total charge is zero. In  NaCl, which contains Na+ and Cl- ions, equal numbers of each. Likewise MgSO4 with Mg2+ and[SO4]2- ions. But in MgCl2, two Cl- ions per Mg2+.
