Decomposition of dichloroiodate

Hey,

I made some Cesium (I) dichloroiodate and need to know the equation for the thermal composition of the Cl2I- ion.

When I heated it it made iodine gas but that was after heating for quite a while. What other products might have been made?

CsICl2 = CsCl + I2 + ?

Yeah thats what I was thinking. Mabe it makes Cl2 gas aswell as thats pretty colourless compared to I2.

Possibly initially:

CsICl2 -> CsCl + ICl; then  2ICl<=>I2 +Cl2

ICl is a reasonably stable compound, but not much would need to decompose to the intensely violet I2 to make the colour of this apparent.

Definitely not CsI +Cl2 as Cl displaces I from its compounds!
