3) What is the net ionic equation for the following “molecular” reaction:
2 HNO2(aq) + Ba(OH)2(aq) Ba(NO2)2(aq) + 2 H2O(l)
A) 2 HNO2(aq) + Ba(OH)2(aq) > Ba(NO2)2(aq) + 2 H2O(l)
B) 2 H+(aq) + 2 NO2(aq) + Ba(OH)2(aq) > Ba2+(aq) + 2NO2-(aq) + 2 H2O(l)
C) 2 H+(aq) + Ba(OH)2(aq) > Ba2+(aq) + 2 H2O(l)
D) HNO2(aq) + OH-(aq) > NO2-(aq) + H2O(l)
E) There is no reaction – all ions cancel out!
I've worked out this problem and got 2H+ + 2OH- > 2H2O, but the answer is D
I don't understand why don't you break up the HNO2(aq), isn't it a strong electrolyte?
