Titration, AgCl
« on: January 14, 2008, 04:06:23 AM »
I've titrated an solution of NaCl with AgNO3. Before titrating, I added some H2SO4.

Could anybody offer an explanation to this; why do I have to add H2SO4 to the NaCl solution?

Thanks :)

It doesn't make sense to me. Perhaps the idea is to acidify the solution so that Ag+ doesn't precipitate as AgOH, but if so, you shouldn't use H2SO4 as Ag2SO4 is weakly soluble as well.

So it would be a better idea to add HNO3 instead of H2SO4 since AgNO3 is soluble?
