result of calcium carbonate and sulfurous acid
« on: January 16, 2008, 08:34:51 PM »
   I need to know the result of Ca2CO3+H2SO3 (Calcium carbonate and Sulfurous acid). Calcium carbonate is supposed to be a base, so when I tried to do it I used the type of double displacement reaction when acids react with bases. I got Ca2CO3+H2SO3=H2O+CaS+CO2, but I'm really not sure about that and have no idea if I'm right or if I'm very far from right. Just wondering if anyone knows and if they could give me some help or feedback on this one. Sorry, I'm really bad with chemistry.  :P

Calcium Carbonate is CaCO3. Ca2CO3 is not a stable compound. And you typed the formula for sulfuric acid, not furous. This question makes more sense for furic, so:

CaCO3 + H2SO4 -> Ca2+ + SO42- + H2O + CO2

Check if it is balanced and if not balance it.

H2SO3 is sulfurous acid and it perfectly fits the question. Outcome will be almost identical.

I could of sworn last night I saw a 4! You changed it t embarrasses me Borek! It was 4! heh! And I thought it made more sense as "sulfuric acid" is "acid rain" and usually when people learn about this.

I suck.
