Hi,

Inorganic molecules can be coated with silica by a deposition process using water glass.

I know that silica is able to deposit onto surfaces that are hydrophilic, but is there another mechanism by which the silica does this?

Hello Kiddhill20,

From practical experience, almost any acid will react with the sodium/potassium water glass to become deposited onto surfaces.  When neutralizing with organic acids, water glass can be deposited and encapsulate organic molecules.
