Precipitation?
« on: March 10, 2005, 12:44:58 AM »
Saludos,

          Should Mg(OH)2(s) precipitate from a solution that is 0.010M MgCl2(aq) and also 0.10M NaC2H3O2? Ksp= [Mg(OH)2] = 1.8 x 10^-11
Ka(HC2H3O2) = 1.8 x 10^-5.

I'm having trouble starting this problem. How can I know which compound establishes the [OH-]?

Thank You,
Edher

Think about hydrolysis of sodium acetate.
