Statistical data analysis - software
« on: March 10, 2008, 02:35:37 PM »
I´m doing a statistical analysis of some data. I must do an "acumulated probability" graphic but I don´t know wich software I should use to get the statistical scale at the horizontal axis.

I will be gratefull if someone suggest me some software, preferable free, to make graphics with statistical scale.

Can I do it with Excel? How?

Thanks in advance,

Tripton

Are you trying to get the empirical distribution?

Yes. The drawing I`m trying to do is similar to the second graphic in :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cumulative_distribution_function
The difference is that I need an "statistical scale" in the horizontal axis in order to obtain something similar to a straight line. The statistical scale is expanded for values below 10% and over 90%.
If I draw the empirical distribution from an ideal case (Gauss distribution) in this scale, te result is a line. This is a special scale used for statistical analysis.

Really I just need any software to do graphics with statistical scale at horizontal axis.

Maybe you can do it in R.  I'm sure it can plot an empirical distribution but i'm not sure if it is easy to specify a statistical scale. Note: R is a little complicated to use...but it is free.

you could also look here.

go and download the trial version of origin-8, maybe that will help go to www.originlab.com,
its free though but make sure you downloaded the "pro"

SPSS does like... everything.  Not cheap though.
