Refrigerant with high critical temperature!
« on: April 01, 2008, 10:24:25 PM »
I am thinking of making a refrigeration system for my submarine to cruise around volcanic vents where the temperatures can reach 160 degrees celsius  ??? :o ???

I am just stuck  ;) in finding an apprpriate refrigerant... It needs a critical temperature above 160 degrees celsius and a boiling point below 10 degrees celsius  :-\ does anyone know of a refigerant that fits this description or knows where i could find one?  ??? ??? ??? I dont care if it has CFC's.  Also i need the acentric factor from said refrigerant.
Any help would be appreciated  :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* 8)

R718 - aka water?

Vapour pressure at 10°C is 0.01 bar, critical temperature 374°C. Evaporator pressure might be a bit low for a practical system.

n-pentane

Critical temperature 196°C, Boiling point 36°C at 1 bar?
