ten test tube mystery lab
« on: April 03, 2008, 02:42:46 PM »
Hey guys, I need some help.  I'm working on the famous "Ten test tube mystery lab" and I have no idea how to fill out the table.  It is a 10X10 table with different reagents.  They are HCl, NH3, H2SO4, NaOH, Ca(NO3)2, AgNO3, Cu(NO3)2, SnCl4 (in HCl), Al(NO3)3 and Ni(NO3)2.  I then have to  predict whether or not a reaction will occur between all of them.  Has anybody ever completed this lab before? I have no idea how to tell what type of reaction will occur.

These sort of experiments build on a lot of simple concepts:  the basic solubility rules, double replacement reactions, electronegativity series, so there's a lot for you to cover.  Try not to get flustered, start by building your grid, crossing out the parts that are like HCl + HCl, and see what clicks for you, and what specific questions you need help with.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
