In the sun (and solar-like stars) four initial protons are fused to produce a final helium-4 (4He) nucleus. The mass of a proton is 1.00773 atomic mass units (AMU), and the resulting mass of a helium-4 nucleus (4He) is 4.00150 AMU. The four protons have a net electric charge of +4, while the resulting 4He nucleus has a net electric charge of +2. Explain what
happened to the two extra charges. Was charge conserved in the reaction?
