thiosemicarbazide solution
« on: April 29, 2008, 10:08:23 AM »
I have problem with dissolution of thiosemicarbazide in ethanol. I tried to dissolute a thiosemicarbazide in ethanol but it seems that thiosemicarbazide is slightly solubile in ethanol. also i heated an ethanol but also nothing. does ethanol solution of thiosemicarbazide means thiosemicarbazide hydrochloride?? I need to react a thiosemicarbazide with diketone (benzil) in ethanol solution.

Thanks

Have you tried adding some water?  That helps a lot with semicarbazide, but I have never used thiosemicarbazide.

If you are using the hydrochloride salt you may need to add a base to get it to got into solution.  Something like pyridine or sodium acetate usually works.
