Lidocaine

hi, i am doing an assignment for synthesis of lidocaine and one question is to write  the reaction between lidocaine and hydrochloric acid, and lidocaine and NaOH to explain why lidocaine is soluble in aqueous acid and N-(2,6-dimethyphenyl)chloroacetamide is not soluble in aq acid... pls help... its really urgent. thanks

What functional groups does lidocaine have? How can these react with HCl?

What about N-(2,6-dimethyphenyl)chloroacetamide - how does this differ?

lidocaine does not contain chlorine atom and has 2 ethyl groups... but both have nitrogen...

Lidocaine is a tertiary amine which is more basic than ammonia. Can amines react with HCl?. What is then formed?.
