i have to analyse my product sample (1M ethanol solution) coming out from Fuel cell. problem is sample should be free from water only then sample can be injected in GC-MS.
how do i remove water from sample?
(water content in the sample is very high, was wondering if HPLC can do dat i am not sure though...do suggest a method for separating water from the sample, water content in the sample is roughly about 95%)

in my case probable compounds that could be present in the sample are ethanol, (acetic acid, acetaldehyde, acetone ) in trace amounts.

To use the sample in HPLC, i first tried to know the wavelengths of aceticacid, ethanol and acetaldehyde using uv-spectrometer but i have not found any wavelenght and since concluded that HPLC by uv-detector is not useful for me, any expert in HPLC can help me in choosing which detector i shd use(if at all possible)

what column should i use a polar or non-polar ( if so which column in particular fused silica gel will do??) for GC_MS

I hope some one could help me in this.

Why don't extract your sample with ether for exemple and then dry the ether phase with MgSO4?
