EMULSION RESIN

I used to quantify the unreacted monomers in emulsion resin. But i got a problem, it stucks in my syringe! I put IS (ethyl methacrylate) and acetone in my emulsion resin and diluted it further with water. It stucked in my syringe prior to injection. *delete me* How am I going to remove it? and is there any preparation of samples I need to know prior to injection in my GC? Is there any solvent that can be used with emulsion resin so that there will be no problem at all? Thanks in advance.

What polymer is it? Are you sure you want to put water in it? May be better to isolate the polymer from the water and then characterise it by dissolving it up and analysing it with GPC, IR and/or NMR or something.

Thanks... Maybe I need to adapt a headspace for my gc....

I agree with P. Use IR or NMR to quantify your compounds. Ex you can let the resin cure at the FTIR-ATR and then quantify. Then you also have the posibility to do kinetic studies and compute rate constants.

Catherine wants to quantify the unreacted monomers in emulsion resin, so the best way to do this is :
-headspace technique
- distillation
- or 1H NMR, looking at doubles bonds of monomers and quantify them versus others polymer protons
