Trick question or something I am missing?
« on: May 22, 2008, 07:42:34 AM »
If the denstity of octanol is 0.857g/ml, express the concentration of a solution made by dissolving 193ml of ethanol in 250gm of water in therms of %w/w

That is the question. I was ready to dive in and calculate then realised that there are 3 different solutions...octanol, ethanol and water. I would have thought I would have needed to know the density of ethanol not the density of octanol.

Is this a trick question  or is there a principle I am not understanding?

My gut instinct says "teacher made a typo"  ;D

Thanks  :-*, I should have gone with my gut feeling, I wasted 40 minutes reading/rereading, looking for different calculation types, searching the net etc..   ::)
