More on Solutions
« on: April 06, 2005, 09:36:27 AM »
We have covered alot of solutions in my intro class this semester...I did not take chemistry in high school so its like learning a foreign language for me.

Right now I am working on this problem

A .425 g sample of an antacid is dissolved in water.  To the mixture is added 30 ml of .50 M HCl.  The solution is then titrated to the endpoint with 9.82 ml of .5 M NaOH.

The questions are  -What volume of acid was neutralized by the NaOh.
-What volume of acid was neutralized by the antacid.
- What volume of acid is neutralized per gram of antacid.

So far I have used n= mv to get moles of NaOH and moles of HCl.  But I am at a loss as to what to do next.  The sample of the antacid is completely throwing me off, we have had tons of examples in class, but never one like this with an unknown.  Any guidance would be great if someone could offer some!

Thanks  >:(

Both, acid and NaOH show the same concentrations. What volume of NaOH you used for neutralization of  HCl in excess?

up to 30.0 mL

What volume of acid is neutralized per gram of antacid
Rescale above value to 1g of antacid
