1-What is the difference between an alpha and beta linkage?
2-Is alpha always 1,2 and is beta always 1,4 linkage?
Thanks.

1 - the stereochemistry of the reducing end of the monosaccharide.
2 - No. For example, alpha 1,6 linkages are common in glycogen.
