Gunpowder gone wrong.
« on: June 27, 2008, 04:03:34 PM »
Hello

today i was trying to make some gunpowder/blackpowder, just like 100 grams. but when i was done i tested some of it but i did not burn very fast, i just melted and made some smoke and sparkled a little.

The way i did it was:

75g KNO3 and 15g charcoal and 10g sugar on a pan with some water.

When all the water was gone and it was dry, it was a rocky powder, and i made it a little bit finer with a hammer.

what can i do to make it burn faster?

thanks.

That is not the correct recipe for gunpowder.  Gunpowder has no sugar in it.

Some things strike me as amusing

Very interesting

Sugar is implied as a substitute for sulfur

Pounding on something you think could be explosive with a hammer to break it up in smaller pieces

I must be missing something

The sugar is so when it blows up in your face it tastes good.  ;)
