Synthesis of 2-ChloroPiperidine
« on: July 18, 2008, 06:43:03 AM »
Here is a question on Mannich Reaction again! If we use 1equivalent Formyl Chloride + 1equivalent Formaldehyde + 1equivalent NH4Cl (I'm not sure about this part) + 1equivalent Acetone can we make a Mannich Reaction to synthesise the Piperidone which upon reduction by means of a Wolff-Kishner Reduction to give the Piperidine???

I have got 3 question over this subject:
1. Can this reaction be made?
2. Can NH4Cl be used in a Mannich Reaction?
3. Can a Wolff - Kishner Reduction reduce the -Cl group on the Piperidone Ring?

Thanks!

I'm not even touching this question.  Piperidine is a controlled substance, and coupled with your last subject...

FOR INFORMATIVE PURPOSES ONLY! Do you understand me now? And I can't understand his coupling with my last subject... I'm studying over Mannich reaction and that's all! Where did you get that words like Controlled Substance or what?

Your last subject was getting dangerously close to pharmaceutical preparation as well (considering the exact text you posted was found on erowid).  I said Piperidine is a controlled substance (Class II in the US), so I'm not comfortable discussing this without admin approval.  There are plenty of ways to learn about mannich reactions without having it deal anything with piperidine or anything like it.

If you think logically I always ask the mechanism or "can it be done?" like questions! I do never ask how to do it! Do you understand the case right now?

And that was also a Mannich Reaction! If you don't want to answer my questions you don't have to but PLEASE don't make so strict decisions about people who you don't know! Instead (as a more friendly way) you can tell me how to learn about Mannich Reactions...

Thanks

You can learn about Mannich reactions online

Draw a mechanism on how you think the reaction will proceed.  Otherwise I agree with Macman.
