Naming organic compunds
« on: July 24, 2008, 02:53:01 PM »
How exactly does the numbering on organic compunds work when more than one groups are present?

For example, would the correct name be 4,5-dimethylhex-1-ene or 1,2-dimethylhex-5-ene?  Similarly, 4,4-dimethylpent-2-ene or 2,2-dimethylpent-3-ene?

Thanks.
