NMR processing software
« on: September 15, 2008, 05:56:29 PM »
I am currently looking for free or inexpensive NMR processing software that is compatible with a macintosh.

Is anybody familiar with inmr?

How about SWAN-MR?

Any thoughts or recommendations?

Thanks!

mestre nova is the best NMR processing software I've used (though I have used neither of the ones you mentioned) and it is available for Mac OSX. It's certainly much better than the standard Bruker or Varian programs...

I think the same developers also produced iNMR, but I'm not sure...

SwaN-MR requires Classic. I'd prefer using the free version of iNMR. Even better, if you want to spend a little money, is their latest offer for students:

I have tried both iNMR and Mnova. iNMR includes some extra interesting modules (simulation, deconvolution, Spotlight plug-in) and it's significantly faster (everybody seems to agree on this point). I suggest you to try the free version of iNMR and, if you like it, switch to the student edition.

A friend of mine told me that the Mac version of mestrenova has a persistent problem: it's very slow in drawing. He has compared the Windows version and the Mac version and the difference is marked. In the case of 2D NMR the program becomes almost unusable. This is a long standing and well-known problem that they haven't been able to solve. Probably that's the reason why the same maker also sells iNMR. Apart from this, if somebody prefers the Mac over the PC, than he'll also prefer the interface of iNMR over that of mestrenova.
The community of iNMR users is growing. Se for example:

There used to be the Google maps with all the user, but they have been removed, don't know why.
