Molecular structure of excited states
« on: September 28, 2008, 05:44:31 PM »
Cheers everyone.  I was just curious as to how the structure of say, Benzene, would look in its excited state when excited with light.  I understand that electrons move to a higher energy level, but how would Benzene look?  What about its dipole moment?

The molecular structure stays the same. Even though the electrons may be at a higher energy level, there is no chemical reaction, so the actual compound should not alter.
