I need a crash course in wax emulsion, to the end that I can at least have an intelligent conversation with someone about it. Anyone have any suggestions for reading material?

I need to come up with a formulation for a log end sealer that I wish to have private labeled, and would like to be able to understand what my choices are regarding the different types of waxes, thickeners, polymers, drying agent additives etc.

I know the characteristics I want in the formulation, but do not know what does what. I wish to tinker with various mixtures but don't know where to start.
