Hey. In doing a first year project, i came across a few chemicals that i am not very familiar with, namely higher alkyl sulfate and sodium metasilicate. They are ingredients of a certain cleaning product which i am researching, and i basically need to know how each of the chemicals will affect the environment if waste water after cleaning is dumped back into waterways. Ive looked at the MSDS for sodium metasilicate, aswell as a few other places, but cant really find any specific information; perhaps im not looking in the right place?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Look around for more MSDS's, particularly online, on the last page, usually, ecological information is listed.

Thanks for the fast reply. Since posting this topic ive actually found what i was looking for in relation to the sodium metasilicate, however i am still unsure about the alkyl sulfate. What does "higher" alkyl sulfate mean?
