Maleic Anhydride and Water

if I add maleic anhydride to water, will it hydrolize to maleic acid?
And just curious about fumaric acid, will that form too or is that considered completely different?

It hydrolyze usually through an acid catalyzed opening.  So you're water would need to be slightly acidic, which most water is.  However, it may need to be a little more acidic.  Usually it's aqueous strong acid (like .1M or such).

How do you think fumaric acid may form? I know that you can get fumaric acid from maleic anhydride via reversible Michael addition of amines, but I don't think just water would be strong enough.
