Products of a couple reactions...

Hello,

I am trying to figure out the products of a few reactions here. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

As an FYI, I would predict the first reaction of calcium and copper (II) nitrate to produce calcium nitrate and copper but I observed a gas evolution, thus I am thoroughly confused. I am sure there is a general trend here so some answers may be similar...I am just failing to see the trend.

1) Calcium metal and Copper (II) Nitrate
2) Calcium metal and Iron (III) Nitrate
3) Calcium metal and Iron (II) Sulfate
4) Calcium metal and Tin Chloride
5) Magnesium metal and Tin Chloride
6) Zinc metal and Iron (II) Sulfate

I'm betting you did observe a gas evolution.  What else can you say, to describe your experiment.  You may discover it for yourself.  *HINT* So you went to the shelf, got some free Ca metal, and some Cu(NO3)2, and what, ground the dry powders together in a mortar and pestle?

Ahh sorry for the confusion. The copper nitrate (and all other compounds) were aqueous solutions. I placed some aqueous copper nitrate in a spot plate and added a piece of solid calcium metal into the solution. A gas began to evolve rapidly. The process was the same for the other reactions with a similar result. I am having trouble with identifying the gas evolved. Would it be hydrogen because of the aqueous solution? I really do not think that is it but I can't think of anything else.
