Equation for ammonium chloride and water
« on: November 24, 2008, 02:42:14 PM »

What is the reaction equation for ammonium chloride and water?

NH4Cl(s) + H2O(l) ----> NH4+(aq) + Cl-(aq) + H3O+(l)

I dont think it is correct.

Someone please help

Ii think it would look like this NH4Cl+H20=NH3+HCL+H20

NH4Cl is fully ionized , even in solid state. Hence
NH4+(s) + H2O = NH3(aq) + H3O+(aq)
Cl- is a spectator ion

Just remember, that NH4+ is a weak acid, so the dissociation reaction written by AWK doesn't go far to the right.
