MIT Chemistry Courses
« on: December 14, 2008, 03:20:58 PM »
MIT has put video lectures of a lot of programs online for free access. Including a General Chemistry (two, one more advanced the the other) and a Solid State Chemistry course and a Chemistry Lab techniques course, along with a three semester Physics course, some engineering courses, as well as math, and other special topic courses.

I am very much looking forward to checking some of them out.

I really like to take the exams and such from the organic sections.  This open course stuff...it's the wave of the future.  I hear the UCB videos on itunes are not actually the intro chemistry classes but nonmajor courses, I may have read it on this forum actually.  Since we are talking about video lectures, does anyone know a source of older lectures on synthesis?  My hunch is that most of these aren't recorded although I did find one of Woodward discussing the synthesis of cephalosporin C.  It was short but interesting nonetheless.

Regarding the UC Berkeley video, I believe they are the non-major class as my PI (Heino Nitsche) was the person I saw teaching it.
Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.
3. Forum Supports LaTex

Neat.  I am sure I can use a good review and probably will also learn new stuff too.  Thanks for the information!
