Acid catalyzed dehydration of 2-pentanol
« on: January 02, 2009, 11:13:15 PM »
Acid catalyzed dehydration of 2-pentanol would give

(A) 1-pentene
(B) cis-2-pentene as a major product
(C) trans-2-pentene as a major product
(D) cis- and trans-2-pentene in equal amounts.

Any hints, please?

Consider the stability of the products.  More stable products are favored.
