Synthesis Help
« on: January 06, 2009, 09:14:48 AM »
I have two question regarding synthesis that I am having trouble with.
Please find these attached; the first I believe I should use the Hantzsch pyridine syntheis, however once I have the product from this I am having trouble with conversion to the required product using the cyclic ketone.
For question two, I can complete the Fischer Indole synthesis but first require the ring ether to be of ketone form for reaction.

Any help much appreciated.

In the second instance can you (on paper) do a retro Fischer to see what your starting material should be me?

The "ring ether" is not actually just an ether though, is it? Do you know about acetals etc.?

Yes, by paper I worked backwards and I think the reactants are Ph-NH-NH2 and CH3C=OCH2CH2OH,  the only way I can think to open the ring i via nuc attack to get an alcohol grown(ie the latter above) yet this doent seem to work.
