Does anyone know of any research about this, I'm struggling to find background information on this. I can only find stuff about layer-by-layer depositon of charged particles onto charged polymer surfaces.

how are you looking to attach onto the surface? I would search for ways of attachment, such as gold thiols, or electrostatics.
