HW help ( Chem 2 )
« on: January 31, 2009, 02:45:48 PM »

1) Acetylacetone has the structure shown here. For each of the numberd carbons indicate the electron pair geometry and the molecular geometry. For each of the numbered bond angles give the approximate bond angle.

This is what i have:
Electron pair geometry
1 -> Tetrahedral
2 -> Trigonal planar
3 -> Trigonal planar
4 -> Trigonal planar
5 -> Tetrahedral
Molecular geometry
1 -> Tetrahedral
2 -> Trigonal planar
3 -> Trigonal planar
4 -> Trigonal planar
5 -> Tetrahedral

Bond angle: 1) <109.5  2) 180  3) <90

2) Determine the number of sigma and pi bonds for the following molecule:

Using dipole moment arrows show if this structure is polar or non-polar. If this structure is non-polar, how would you make it polar?

This is what i have for this:
C-F -> Sigma Bond
C-H -> Sigma Bond
C=C 1 Sigma, 1 Pi Bond
And this structure is polar.

-Please do let me know
Thank you in advance.

Bond angles for 2) and 3) are not correct. If the electron pair geometry is trigonal planar what is the bond angle?
