finding molar mass
« on: February 01, 2009, 12:59:59 AM »
A compound is known to contain 40.45% carbon and 35.90% oxygen by mass. Each molecule contains two atoms of oxygen. What is the molar mass of this substance?

This is my last problem i need to figure out. Ther percentages dont add up to 100 and i dont know what else would go in here so the problem itself is confusing to me, can u help me understand this problem?

Hydrogen.

EDIT:  But....that really doesn't seem right.  Those percents do not add up right, you are not going to have 23.95% hydrogen by mass like that...

Can I ask what you got for the formula, just for my own curiosity?
