principal and secondary quantum numbers

Can someone please explain to me the significance of the principal and secondary quantum numbers.

Assuming by "significance" you mean "meaning", and you mean electron quantum numbers, a Google search of the phrase "principal quantum number" turned up the following entry first in the list
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principal_quantum_number
Then the following for "quantum number"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_number
and
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azimuthal_quantum_number
- which I believe is the second quantum number.
