What mass of Ca2+ could be removed from hard water?

What mass of Ca2+ could be removed from hard water by a 2000.0 gram sample of hydrated zeolite which is Na2Al2Si3O10 x 2H2O?

You need a reaction between Ca2+ and the hydrated zeolite.  I'm not sure what that reaction is, do you get any information in your book about this?

I mean sorry Ca2+ reacts with hard water but i don't know the Elements that Form Hardwater.

Sorry, but reezyfbaby, you are incorrect.  And Delques, hard water is water that contains a lot of ions, like calcium.  The question is telling you that hydrated zeolite removes Ca2+ ions from the hard water, this makes it softer.  You need a reaction between the Ca2+ and the hydrated zeolite to answer this question.

Right, and from there you can calculate the moles of your zeolite, and determine how many moles of Ca2+ can be removed, and then the mass.

Excuse me Can you confirm if Calcuim Sulfate is Hard water?
Because i know it should be Ca(SO4) that should be the formula for hard water...i think is it?

There is no "formula" for hard water.

Hard water is water with dissolved calcium and/or magnesium salts. That means it contains Mg2+ and/or Ca2+ ions.

So which one do i use Mg or Ca...? thats what confused me it said Ca2+ in the question.
so i think its Ca but im not sure.

Okay I made a big mistake This is the right equation im supposed to use:

Ca2+ (aq) +  2NaZ (cr)   :rarrow:  CaZ2 (cr)  + 2Na+ (aq)   

Substitute Z  with Na2Al2Si3O10 x 2H20  because its asking to use the hydrated zeolite.

and im trying to find the mass of Ca2+....now its understandable But i don't know what to do next i keep on coming up with answers like this:

Ca2 + 2Na3Al2Si3O10 x 2H2O --->  CaNa2Al2Si3O10 x  2H2O + 2Na 

But i know its not right because it doesn't make sense.
