Good Evening,

I am investigating two compounds.

a) 4-Methylmethcathinone ( 1-(4-methylphenyl)-2-methylaminopropan-1-one )

b) β-ketoamphetamine ( (S)-2-amino-1-phenyl-1-propanone )

My questions are as follows:

- Can (a) be considered to be a salt of (b) ?
- Can (a) be considered an ester of (b) ?

I'd say no to both your questions. Neither compounds are salts nor esters. Both of them are amines  - a is secondary and b is primary.
