Problems with synthesising Beta amino acids
« on: February 17, 2009, 08:56:10 PM »
hi all

i know what a beta amino acids are and was looking through some sites and all mentioned that it was difficult in synthesising Beta amino acids due to chirality problems

could someone explain what problems are there in synthesising beta amino acids? and is there currently a method of beta amino acid synthesis?

What do you mean by the term - chirality problem. Beta-aminoacids are unstable and synthesis should be carefully performed.

Beta-alanine or (DL)-beta-amino acids.

But the question was about chiral stability - only beta-amino acids with protected amino groups are stable.

i've read that the challenging part in synthesising beta amino acids is to maintain its Chirality so was wondering what techniques are currently out there are that synthesis beta amino acids and why is it hard to maintain its chirality

ah that'll explain all the Boc-lated compounds on offer
