I always have trouble with the DA rxn. I know the mech, but I always get the wrong product. I'm trying to figure out the product for this one


This is what I found but I'm a little confused because I never learned about DA rxn's kicking off oxygens.

can anybody explain the mech?

That looks like the product for dimerization of cylcopentadiene, not dione.

How stable is the ketone, even?  It's pseudo anti-aromatic with the partial positive on the carbonyl carbon.

Oops, I read dione, not dienone.  I don't know, in that case.

you're right.  the structure drawn is dicylcopentadiene.  my question was more theoretical.
