how to balance equations
« on: March 03, 2009, 03:25:43 PM »
I'm not understanding now to balance equations. the questions states Copper (II) chloride reacts with sodium nitrate, and copper (II) nitrate and sodium chloride are formed. a) Write the balanced equation for this reaction.

What i understand is there is Cu Cl + Na N = NU N = Na Cl
I kinda thought it was CuCl2 + NAN2 + CuN2 + NaCL2 but i know that didn't make sense... If i was at lease givin the skeliton then i am able to balance. but when it is a word equation.... I am lost

... I looked at the back of the book and seen .
CuCL2 + 2NANO3 = Cu(NO3)2 + 2NaCL

now i am confused where O oxygen came from in the equation....?

Sodium nitrate is NaNO3

NaN doesn't exist. NaN3, Sodium azide does

Na3N - sodium nitride - has been reported as well.

I feel like the more ahead I go... the more I starting loosing what  i already learned. I think it's time to slow down a bit for me.
