Acyl bond angles
« on: March 05, 2009, 04:53:55 AM »
In a lipid I am wishing to check the angle between carbons. So on an acyl chain, the carbons are sp3 bonded so presume bonds are made tetrahedrally and hence the bond angle must be 109.5 degrees. I presume that this is correct. If it was a plain C-C bond without having two hydrogen bonds, I presume that it would be 120 degrees is sp2 bonded.

Thanks

To a good approximation, yes.

But I'm a bit confused about what you mean by

What do you mean by a "plain C-C bond" ?
