Gold in Aqua regia?? (Chemistry I question)
« on: March 07, 2009, 09:05:05 PM »
Hello everyone.

I had this question in class and I cannot figure it out. Any help would be appreciated.

Which atom is reduced when gold, Au, reacts with aqua regia???

I guessed Cl-. Is this right? If not why??

Thanks everyone.

Oh you're in luck, this question has come up recently.  See:  http://www.chemicalforums.com/index.php?topic=30991.0  for a good explanation.  The answer given there will come in handy, for the exam, for this reaction, and many others like it.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
