Calculating ΔS°

"Find ΔS° for the formation of CH2Cl2 from its elements in their standard states. Rationalize the sign of ΔS°."

So is the equation C(s) + H2(g) + Cl2(g) --> CH2Cl2 ?

And what does "rationalize the sign" mean? Make it positive?

If I am reading it correctly it means justify your answer.  Basically if it is positive the disorder is greater and if it is negative it is lesser.   So explain why the system has become more/less disordered.

Thanks, but I don't think that's the case, because we only have one blank to fill in the value of ΔS°rxn; there is no place for us to explain our reasoning. And if you don't mind telling me is the equation correct?  :-[

You should be able to use that path to get a good answer.
